If anyone has photos of the park they’d like to share with the rest of the world, please fire them into us here at parkphoto-at-dundeeconcrete dot com.
If anyone has any ideas of fund-raising event for the McKnight Memorial Extension… please feel free to advertise here.
Long story > short. After speaking to a few people at Craig’s service / wake, we agreed that one of the best ways to build a memorial to him would be to fundraise to make more park in his name. The images below are mock-ups of a design that has been quietly simmering away for a while now, and quotes are being gathered. So far I reckon we are looking at a total cost of something around 17k. If we can raise HALF the cash, we will be in fair standing to receive match-funding from some source or another. Sounds vague I know, but that’s the way a lot of these government funding bodies work. The design is relatively simple, but would be very effective in opening up the lines in that portion of the park .Casting the block with his name and dates set into it would be a great, durable reminder of him. (Sorry, there is honestly no room for another bowl or similar without REALLY bumping up the price and building a supporting wall etc)The 1m wide, 8m long block would be 300mm (a foot) high at the bowl end (the existing manny pad pad is 200mm high and a tad low) and become 600mm at the high end. Note the euro-gap/ launch thing, set back slightly for landing slides off the block. The steel edging will be 100mm wide chunky stuff; good for getting your grind on.This 3D model (below) is to exact dimensions and best represents what the proportions would be.We will be setting up a Facebook group alongside this site to help coordinate responses to this project. Please keep let us know your thoughts about this, and any ideas you have for raising funds!
(BTW: as much as we’d love to just get a bunch of concrete-float wielding skaters together to build it for a fraction of the cost… since it’s managed by the council, they need the to have it built by a real contractor with all the various legal backup which that involves.)
Too much to say about this wonderful guy.He will be sorely missed. If you have any photos of Craig you would like to email us, we would really love to put them up here.
Thanks to a joint effort between Leisure and Communites Dept of Dundee City Council and The good chaps at Dundee Fire and Rescue; at LIGHTING PILOTINITIATIVE will be conductedin Dudhopeskatepark.
As long as they can get decent access to suitable spots in the park, they will set up a generator and some portable floodlights for 2 hours:
between 6:30 -8:30 on 23 and 30th September, and 7th and 14th October
They will also probably do this for the MUGA (fenced fitbathing) up the top o’ the park.
This is to see how the usage-value works later during darker evenings.
So if the weather is good; Uncle Boring-Old-Fart Speccy sez:
SHOW UP,
BE COOL (show the community workers / police etc that the skatepark-users are notthe onesthey should be watching for illicit activity eh?!?!)
BRING SOME MORE SKATERS. (show them this is a WANTED thing and that permanent lights would be really appreciated.)
Injured at the moment so here are a few snips from the world wide web that have impressed me recently.
Free with this months Kingpin comes the new Adidas vid – Diagonaland its a belter. Featuring the Euro team with cameo’s from the bighitting Americans Busenitz, Gonz etc. its one of the best vid’s I have seen in recent years, check it out.
Gunes Ozdogan has some inventive lines and super stylish –
Lem Villemin, amazing –
Also not heard a lot from Powell of late but here’s a clip of Ben Hatchell with a cameo from Stevie Cab, awesome.
Also stoked to hear ZZ Top are back recoring new material with non other than Rick Ruben and its apparently going back to a pre-80’s La Grange sound, thats the best era kids. For those not familiar with their work they are the Texan supergroup featuring the talents of Billy Gibbons made famous by using a quarter as a pick and once described by Jimi Hendrix as the best guitarist he had ever witnessed, here is proof. You know sketchy Pete is rocking that look so cant be bad right?
Enjoy.
ALSO. SUNDAY IS “INTERNATIONAL GO SKATEBOARDING DAY” SO GET OUT OF YER BED, PICK UP YER SKATEBOARD, MAKE A SLALOM CONE OUT OF CARDBOARD AND GET DOWN TO THE PARK AND SHREDDDDDDDD.
Weather today was remarkable and a decent sized crew gathered for a session at Dudhope. Jack was playing around with my camera and grabbed this image of Phil powering out of the bowl.
Here he is hiding himself away from a dose of the sunburn.
Instead of going to the park on Saturday, All the BMXers might want to go to the City Square to check out the visiting BMX /mountain bike mentalists wot will be performing crazy stunts and daring leaps.
