Feb 1 2008 Peeps’ Snaps
I shoulda checked my email sooner because folk had been submitting photos for us last month.
Kohler sent us a few, these are the best of them:
Kohler himselfat Super Mario’s World of Leather – mad flips… no doubt.
It’s good to see Blair promoting basic literacy in a web-based world. FS bluntslide(?) at the famous Wellgate Banks… mad busts, no doubt.
Kohler didn’t say who these were taken by.
So this is only a guess but thanks to:Ryan Millerat www.retinaphotography.com/ I think.
Traer sent us this one:
‘Diana’ Ross … mad flip, no doubt.

Blair sent in this to put up.

War of the Thistles 2008 (and 2007)
Just a quick reminder that War of the Thistles 2008 is on track for April 19th & 20th at Transition Extreme and Dumbarton skateparks. Check out the info about it over at SkateboardScotland.com.
The guys at ApeMedia were on site at WOTT07 and they’ve edited a short video with some highlights from the event:
Edinburgh indoor place
There’s a new indoor place in Edinburgh, called “Transgression Park.”
Mmmmm… Smell that commodification of youthful rebellion. Bless.
Yep: Old news by now, but a few people have mentioned it and I though I’d nick a couple of pics off’Tinterweb for your pleasure.
These & more photos + buckets of information HERE.
+ some photos of The Divster testing it out.
Nice view:
This one’s off the Skateboard Scotland forum. Thanks to ‘TSFSIS’
Have one’s Mummy, Pa-pa, butler or footman drive one down to said venue and partake in the roller-rink shrediculousness.
Yah.
(Ok… I don’t know where that came from. Just run with it.)
Good weather this weekend, hope you got some concrete in somewhere.

Alternate Realities
Howdy Y’all.
While trawling through the vast plains of the ‘Tinerweb, I came across this little gem of a photo.
Some killer little ditch-turned-skatepark in some unknown Mid-west American town.
I’d be utterly stoked to have that nearby.

This weather is rubbish…
Even when it’s sunny, it’s too cold for the genuine wetness to leave the park.
Anyone got a giant hair-drier? Or a heated leafblower?

Felice Anos – a post from Mexico
Although I’m not missing the cold dreich weather, I AM missing a decent cup of coffee and a bacon roll.
Here’s a snap of apublic skatepark in town:
Count yer lucky stars eh?
Yes, there is anotherpark which isprivate and indoors on the other side of town, however this was paid for by the local council.
Happy New Year y’all. catch you all soon.
I’ll try and bring some of the dry weather back with me. (and some tacos)
d
The skatepark now appears on Google Maps, the image looks to have been taken fairly late in the day with long shadows. There’s quite a few people in the park too, seems to be quite a few people sitting around the bench area but there’s not enough detail shown in the image to see who they are.
I bet there’s high-resolution images somewhere though 😉
A crisp cold Saturday afternoon
This just in from Transition Extreme HQ:

That (SOMEONE)took
Here’s ‘not-so-sketchy’ Pete with a trademark early grab, overthe main hip.
Nice shot. (whoever) Certainly not reflective ofrecent weather.
Keep the photos coming in eh?
… but at least tell us WHO TOOK THE PHOTO WHEN YOU SEND IT!
Ta.
Don’t forget abouta chance to spread Santa’s Jam at T’Factory on the 17th…
See previous post for slander and rumour.
D.
Contrary to the mewling rumours:
LOWRIDERZ IS ALIVE AND WELL and KICKING.
They have some rather lovely HEATHEN decks in the shop (Colin Adam, (Div’s bro) rides for them… rad wee speccy that he is )
Also soon to arrive in-shop are SCOTTISH HOBO SKATEBOARDS –A new venture from The Artist Formerly Known As Coach.
They ain’t got no website yet or I’d link-a-ficate that up too. Sho-nuff.
The photo below is the sample deck (8.5″ !!!) I got for being a whiny old git.
YES IT’S A RUDE WORD BUT WE EXPECT YOU WON’T USE IT IN FRONT OF YER NAN.
‘Our Jack’ has been rumoured to be hooked up by this company, and we shall doubtlessly be seeing photgraphs of dramatic stunts and fantastic acrobatic leaps being performed by him on those Scottish-Hobo-planks RIGHT HERE ON THIS VERY SITE, gosh diddly-darn it.
Stay tuned.
Well… it’s sho-nuff wet these days.
I’m gonna have to use a photo of Kohler I took ages ago to help fill dis here page.
OK OK… same trick as a few posts ago, and yes Kohler IS rather well exposed on this site…
but guess what?
A. He was there. B. I had a camera at the time. C. This is basically the only photo on my hard drive that I haven’t put up yet, and it was WAYYYYY to wet today to get anymore.
SEND ‘EM IN IF YOU GOT ‘EM.
McCaff etc…. fer goodness sakes… send us some pics!!!
SUPER MARIO’S WORLD OF LEATHER –
AKA ‘The Factory‘ is holding some sort of skate-themed Xmas jam-spreading session on DECEMBER 17th (which is a Monday… odd day for that kind of carry-on.See below re: ‘party’) 6 -10 pm which will apparently have a “Live DJ” (as opposed to a dead one, gently rotting and shorting out the mixer with various putrid fluids) at the decks (yo.) hopefully NOT playing the same ‘Bus-ted’ or MacFly (or what ever – yes they are purposely misspelled) CD over and over again like the last time I was ever there. Bless their little emo-coloured Vans slip-ons.
TO BE FAIR, it should ACTUALLY be a lot of fun and if you can bear the eye-watering £8 entry fee for the night.
The info we have received also states there will be an “After show party at a secret venue” what ever that means… surely a coded phrase for ‘DRINKING BOOZE IF YER OLD ENOUGH.’ etc etc. OOOHHH!!! Tsk tsk. On a school night (or work night, for some of us) too.
Sounds fun. I might have to hobble along on my skate-zimmer and shout abstract and confusing abuse at the young’uns.
ALSO WE MUST NOTE: This event is kindly sponsored by shops including:
LOWRIDERZ
BROKEHEAD (Arbroaths’ skateshop)
CONCRETE JUNGLE
and others.
OK.
Rastafari

THE THURSDAY ANGRYEDITORIAL:
It has been strongly rumoured that Finlathen skatepark is now to ringed-in by a totally unnecessary metre-an-a-half high fence, which is mainly designed toprop up the public image of a local politician-wanna-be. A jerk who, incidentally, was actually kicked out of all the politicalgroups in the area for being a first-class bell-end.
This fence is SUPPOSEDLY meant to stop children from randomly rolling around all over the shop, and thusly into the road 20 metres away… (as if)… and getting hurt by speeding drivers who don’t see them in time.
… this fence will of course not do anything to ‘increase safety’ but will in fact make it both:
A. Harder to SEE kids approaching the road because of the wall of steel it presents at an angle (look at any playpark fence from an angle and you’ll see how difficult it is to see through it.)
and
B. FAR more difficult for the smaller kids who visit the place to escape from thevarious “thugs” from various nearby schemes who come and cause hassle / beat-up little kids.
Question: If the only gate out of the skateparkis blocked by violent chav-idiots,where do the little kids go?
Answer: To hospital.
The place was designed to be OPEN and freely accessable… not caged-in like an animal pen.
A big [very sarcastic] ‘thank you’toa certain MrPetrie for putting his own warped political schemings before the genuine safety of the local community.
If you are a local skater / biker, please feel free to call up the’The Hub’ – library/ community centreon Pitkerro Road, Telephone438646and ASK FOR A REPRESENTATIVE OF THE ‘Community Safety Panel’ for Linlathen, tell’em what you think.
Heck… maybe you think this is a good thing.

A mellow late October sesh…
only documented because I had the day off.
Yeah, these new benches were ripping it up…
Stoked though huh? More sit-age in the new grass.
Mmmmmm chilled day. A bit cold too.
Kohler got warmed up fast with well-caught shoveits over that manual-pad thing.
Treeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeees
Finn is a reputedly fairly radical kiteboarder from St. Andrews, who managed a few weeks ago, to smack head off’o that transition you see behind him, and was concussed enough to be repeating the same 2 questions the whole time it took to drive hime to A&E. Wearing a helmet ain’t a bad idea for a while eh?
K: Nollie to BS disaster.
and below again, surf’s up
Finn = Stoked… imagine that was you, with that whole park to yourself.
Thanks to B for a name correction.

Friday –
Myself, BenJahmin and the Comanderson went on a quick morning mission to Fin-Laughing.
A slight drizzle made the flats a bit slidy, but it wasn’t stupidly wet. We managed by mostly sticking to the banks which are actually fairly grippy.
It was the first time I’ve managed to skate that park. I was determined not to be put off by a bit of moisture, but I’m really glad I brought a broom, the place was awash in stones and dirt. If you go TAKE A BROOM, honestly, we all ate-it on wee stones in the first 20 mins.
Even in the wet this was skateable… (Fside boardslide)
and so was this (BS bslide)
Comanderson rescued some ollies from the soggy conditions.
Go judge the place for yourself.
Best early on a schoolday, and TAKE A BROOM!
I see Beavis:
Andy Dobson just sent us a wee message to give a heads up on a video premiere for the new Nike SB video called “Nothing but the truth” at Transition Skatepark in Aberdeen. The Premiere takes place on Wednesday the 24th of October (next week!) and starts at 7.30pm till late, entry cost is £7.
As well as the video premiere there will also be an Old School old skool game of skate (pre ’pressure flip’ era); king of the lines; prize giving, all in all it should be a good night of both couch potatoing and skating!
Just to confirm date, time, cost etc:
- Wednesday 24th October
- 7.30pm – 10pm
- £7.50 entry
Also take a look at the website for the movie, http://www.nik…arding/v3/nbtt/

(you might have to watch a quick advert before you get to the meat of this link)
Sorry, bit of a last minute post here but I just wanted to give a heads up on the fact that the Skateboard Scotland Annual General Meeting takes place this weekend at Transition Skatepark in Aberdeen.
There’s a few new faces involved with Skateboard Scotland including Craig Mitchell from Transition and Sam Paterson of the Edinburgh Skatepark Project, but it would be great to have more people on the committee!
Why not pop up to Aberdeen for a skate and also come along and get involved with Skateboard Scotland? The AGM takes place at 2pm on Saturday 29th September, Transition Skatepark in Aberdeen.
Block Jam Challenge at The Factory
Mark from the Factory passed on the following info about a series of Block comp on Thursday 4th October, 2 – 4pm:
Lead by UK pros, Vaughan Baker, Neil Smith, Boots, Horsey, Danny Brady and Chewy Cannon will tour the country visiting all 7 skateparks over the course of the last week of September. At each location we intend to have a block jam / challenge, where the pros amp up a local comp to win £200 in cash and a copy of the game. The timings are as follows: Thursday, 4th October – The Factory Skatepark, Dundee, 2 – 4pm. Also the best filmed trick performed by an over 18 and sent to EA will win a trip for 2 to San Francisco. So someone from the factory will go to the U S of A.

Theres a ton of product to be won and everyone who enters goes home with something.” – nicked straight from the Sidewalk forum
